Nels Larson began building this clocktower barn in 1910, but he did not get everything operational until 1915, the year after his wife passed away. The tower rose 68 feet above the Illinois prairie. Each milk glass clock face was five feet in diameter.

The one-and-a-half ton clock mechanism was made by the Seth Thomas Company.

The barn and tower were toppled by strong straight-line winds in 1976. The Voorhies Project has been looking into the feasibility of rebuilding this landmark of the prairie.
